What I Really Want

A friend's teaching recently inspired me to think about what I want vs what I really want.

What I want is the here and the now, the quick band aide remedy for my desires. What I really want is a long term outcome/goal. Usually what I want does not get me what I really want.

So, I have sat down and made a 3 column Excel spreadsheet file. The first column labeled "What I Want", the second "What I Really Want", and the third "How to get it".

In these columns hold physical, financial, spiritual etc etc goals.

For instance: I'm a beginner Ice Skater. When I go to practice what I want in the moment is to go and skate for fun, talk with friends, practice what I already know and enjoy. But, what I really want is to someday jump and spin. So how do I get to someday jump and spin???? By practicing backwards crossovers for 20 min, practice holding forward and backward edges, doing cardio to keep up strength, lift weights so I can hold my arms up to check myself when I turn etc etc.

What does all that take ladies and gentlemen? Discipline, discipline, discipline.
Hebrews 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
